SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - As we get further into this deep freeze here in Michiana, you might be thinking about next month’s electric bill.

If you’re looking to save some money as you turn up the heat, here’s some things you can do to keep the warmth trapped inside your home.

You can use heavy, lined curtains that fall below the window.

Look for gaps around doors, windows, and appliances. You can seal these up with expandable foam if you have that on hand. But if you need a quick fix without a trip to the store, blankets or towels will do.

If you decide to do any baking, leave the oven door open after you turn it off and let some of that heat into the house — but keep an eye on it, of course.

You can also reverse ceiling fans to move them go clockwise. That way, they’ll push the warm air down where it’s needed.

And of course, be sure to wear an extra hoodie and some warm socks inside so you don’t have to set the heat to as high of a temperature.
