Kroger in LaPorte reopens after closing due to health code violations
LAPORTE, Ind. (WNDU) - The Kroger store on Pine Lake Avenue in LaPorte has reopened its doors after closing temporarily due to health code violations.
Shaw Friedman, attorney for the LaPorte County Health Department, told WNDU 16 News Now the health department closed the store Wednesday.
“The health department noticed some code violations for a couple of months and a local manager was not responsive enough to address the violations,” Friedman said.
A Kroger representative confirmed the closure with WNDU 16 News Now.
“We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously,” the representative said. “In cooperation with the LaPorte County Health Department and to thoroughly clean, sanitize and inspect all areas of the store, out of an abundance of caution we temporarily closed.”
Friedman says Kroger brought in an “army of workers to correct the situation.” The store was reopened late Thursday afternoon.
Friedman would not get into specifics of the health code violations. Kroger also wouldn’t disclose that information with us.
