SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame football team was back on the field Saturday for the Blue-Gold spring game.

While it’s only spring, the Irish gave fans a lot of hope for the coming season. And while the depth chart is still being constructed, one highly touted freshman is already getting some looks and making good use of his opportunities.

Notre Dame has a ton of talent in its quarterback room, and the newest face is four-star freshman CJ Carr from Michigan.

The Blue-Gold Game was the first time he was in front of fans at Notre Dame Stadium, and they gave him a big cheer when he entered the game.

Even though he’s young, he’s a big part of this star-studded quarterback room.

“The QB room is extremely talented,” said new Notre Dame transfer wide receiver Kris Mitchell. “There’s a lot of competition, there’s healthy competition. They’re pushing each other every day, day in and day out. Just to see them battling through all of the hard things they have to control on the offense, it’s a lot on their shoulders, and just seeing them overcome, that is a lot. I’m just really proud of them boys.”

“I think they make great decisions,” said defensive line coach Al Washington. “I think they’re really competitive. I think they have a great unit concept, meaning they push each other. I think they bring the best out in each other, so you know, it’s cool to see those guys rise to the occasion when the moment showed up, so it was pretty consistent. I think it was some good moments there.”

In the Blue-Gold Game, Carr threw for 165 yards and a score. And even more important for a young player like him, no interceptions.

While he might not make an impact this season, he’s a big part of this program’s future.
