CASS COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - Police are searching for a suspect after three people were injured in a stabbing late Thursday night in Cass County.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a three count, assault with intent to murder warrant has been issued for 28-year-old John Henry Coons, who is from the Dowagiac area.

Deputies were called around 10:40 p.m. to a home in the 32000 block of School Street near Indian Lake Road in Silver Creek Township. When they arrived, they found three family members who had been stabbed multiple times.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victims are a 75-year old grandmother, a 73-year-old grandfather, and a 31-year-old grandson.

The grandfather is currently in critical condition at the hospital while the grandmother is in stable condition. The grandson reportedly refused medical treatment.

Lexi Nawrocki and her family just purchased a property down the road from where this all happened. She said it’s an uneasy feeling knowing the suspect is still out there somewhere.

“That makes us feel a little unsettled,” she said. “I think we still feel safe in the area, but a little unsettling to know.”

Meanwhile, we’re hearing from Jamie Coons, the sister of the suspect.

“He’s my brother,” Jamie said. “He has been on drugs, alcohol, he needs to be put where he can I have no contact with nobody nothing. It’s so sad that this happened. I want him to turn himself and get him some help.”

If you have any information regarding Coons’ whereabouts, you’re asked to call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 269-445-8644 or the Cass County Tip line at 1-800-462-9328. Police say you shouldn’t try to apprehend him yourself, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
