Second man pleads guilty to role in kidnapping, theft of 123 guns from Benton Twp. Dunham’s store

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WNDU) - A second Benton Harbor man has pleaded guilty to his role in a kidnapping and robbery that resulted in the theft of more than 100 guns from a sporting goods store in Benton Township.
33-year-old Darnell Bishop and his brother, 25-year-old Dontrell Nance, are both charged in the theft of 123 guns from the Dunham’s Sports on Napier Avenue last November. On Tuesday, Nance, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
As part of his plea agreement, Bishop admitted that he and Nance kidnapped the Dunham’s manager at gunpoint from outside the manager’s home, took him to a second location, and convinced him to provide the alarm code for the store.
Bishop said he then went inside the store and stole 123 pistols, which he carried away in two large Yeti coolers. Law enforcement has since recovered all the firearms.

According to court documents, the big break in the case came in the form of a failed attempt to use the store manager’s CashApp account. That’s what helped police quickly ID Bishop and Nance as suspects and ultimately led to their arrests.
Bishop faces a maximum possible penalty of life in prison.
Nance also faces a maximum possible penalty of life in prison after he pleaded guilty to his charges back in April. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22.
