Portage Township Trustee’s Office offering free weekly cooking classes
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Portage Township Trustee’s Office is launching a new nutrition program called “Nourish.”
It’s best described as a multi-faceted community-oriented cooking class and resource.
The program will host one free weekly class at different community partnership organizations to remove the barrier of transportation. Residents will learn to make a balanced, budgeted dish that they get to eat at the end of the class. And if they register for the class online, they’ll also receive class-specific groceries to make the meal at home.
The Portage Township Trustee’s Office is also compiling a community cookbook where residents can share recipes with each other and working on an interactive map featuring all the grocery stores in our area that accept SNAP and WIC.
Program Coordinator (and WNDU alum) Connor Piper joined us on WNDU 16 News Now to tell us all about “Nourish.” You can learn much more by watching the video above!
The first free cooking class will take place on July 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the OneRoof Southeast Community Center (405 E. Dubail Avenue). You can find the full schedule of classes for July and August below. To register, click here.
