SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame women’s basketball team was recently ranked No. 1 in the nation by the Associated Press, and now the team’s coach is on the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Watch List.

Niele Ivey has led the Fighting Irish to a 23-2 record and an 18-game winning streak. The team became No. 1 in the nation when the latest AP poll came out Monday. It’s the first time the Irish have been ranked No. 1 since January of 2019.

In what is now her fifth season as Notre Dame’s head coach, Ivey has led the Irish to a 112-34 record. The team has finished each of the last three seasons ranked in the Top 25 with berths in the NCAA Tournament.

This year’s team is one of the favorites to win the national championship and could get the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
