BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - Two men are dead after a crash early Saturday morning in Berrien County.

The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 12 and S. Redbud Trail in Bertrand Township.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a Jeep Wrangler on top of a Chrysler Sedan off the roadway.

Investigators believe the Chrysler was traveling south on Redbud Trail when it failed to yield to the oncoming Jeep that was traveling east on U.S. 12.

Police say the driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man from Edwardsburg, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 19-year-old man from Ames, Iowa, was entrapped inside of the vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, but police believe alcohol may have played a role in it.
