Elkhart Police Department’s phone system is now back up

UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department says its phone system is now back up. You can once again call 574-295-7070 for non-emergencies.

ORIGINAL STORY: If you’re trying to call the Elkhart Police Department, you might run into some issues.

The department says its phone system is currently experiencing difficulties, and they are working to get it fixed.

If you are experiencing a non-emergency and require assistance from Elkhart police, you’re asked to call dispatch at 574-293-2175 until further notice. Dispatch will then contact an officer for you.

Police say the phone issue is not affecting 911 calls, so you can still call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency.
