SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - They say the Lord moves in mysterious ways.

Some 20 years ago, the Granger Community Church moved a food pantry and ministry into South Bend’s Monroe Circle neighborhood.

It just so happens much of the public housing population the church came to serve has since seen their units boarded up or torn down.

“Which caused us to pause and pray and process, God is this still what you’re calling us to. And what we discovered is that God put us there for relational discipleship not just to hand out things or teach people things but to walk with people,” said Dr. Ted Bryant, lead pastor at Granger Community Church. “Those that we affectionally called our neighbors and yet in the last couple of years, most of the people that we had been serving no longer were allowed to live there.”

The Granger Community Church will transition the community center to a new location in the 1500 block of McKinley Avenue.

The more central location will allow the church to serve the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as communities in Mishawaka, Osceola, South Bend, Granger and Elkhart.
