An annual program that gives free haircuts to kids going back to school took place Monday.

For the 12th year, 'Hair Cuts 4 Kidz' took place in South Bend.

It was held at Inspiration School of Beauty Culture located at 307 Chapin St.

Founded by South Bend Common Council member Henry Davis, Jr., the program makes sure students in the South Bend area have what they need to head back to school.

"We service them not only with the haircut, but we also give them a backpack full of school supplies," said Henry Davis, Jr. "They also get a lunch as well, so we try to make it a whole day's event and I think we've done a great job of proving that. We have been very consistent on that and so hopefully we're providing impact that we've been looking for for a long time."

The event was expected to provide free haircuts, lunches, and supplies to over 400 students.
