INDOT snow plows and salt trucks have a new home in Marshall County. On Tuesday, INDOT Commissioner Joe McGuinness, highway employees, and elected officials cut the ribbon on the 21,135 sq. ft. Plymouth sub district facility. Located on Jack Greenlee (formerly Commerce) Drive, the new maintenance building houses a full service garage; eight maintenance bays; and a wash bay with room for two trucks. The latter feature, said McGuinness, will expedite the snow removal and road pre-treatment processes.

"(By) being able to pull into the bays, not having to get out into the elements, and be able to load and unload, clean the trucks, all in one location in one-stop shop, if you will," commented McGuinness.

The facility's closeness to three U.S. highways (6, 30, and 31) will also quicken winter clean-up, added McGuinness.

"Those are typically the most traveled (roads), and we want to make sure they are clear, first and foremost," he said.

On the same property is the new 18,896 sq. ft. Plymouth salt building. It contains nearly 7,300 tons of salt; 10,000 gallons of boost deicing material; and boasts the ability to produce 5,000 gallons of brine (liquid salt) per hour.

The previous Plymouth sub district building was 40 years old.
