Man charged after high-speed crash

A man was driving faster than 100 mph when he left the roadway and hit several trees, according to a crash reconstructionist.
The driver, who was recently charged, only suffered a minor scrape.
The LaPorte County crash happened on August 25.
The initial crash investigation revealed that a black 2018 Chrysler 300, driven by 20-year-old Rylee Postelmans of New Carlisle, was traveling north on CR 600 East.
The vehicle became airborne at the intersection of Division Road and entered the woods on the west side of the road. The car damaged several trees, and parts of the vehicle were littered throughout the area.
Postelmans left the scene without reporting the crash to police or the property owner. Police say he later admitted to driving faster than the 40 mph speed limit.
A crash reconstructionist accessed the airbag control module, commonly referred to as the “black box.” He determined that the car was traveling at over 100 miles per hour before the crash.
In the five seconds prior to the collision, the recorded speed of the vehicle ranged between 119 mph and 131 mph.
The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that Postelmans has been charged with leaving the scene of a property damage collision and reckless driving.
